Hillsborough Stadium

Originally called Owlerton Stadium, Hillsborough Stadium was built in 1899. It is home to local team, Sheffield Wednesday F.C. Unfortunately, it is often best known for the tragic events of 15 April 1989, when 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death.

Hillsborough hosted four matches in the 1966 World Cup, including a quarter-final between West Germany and Uruguay.
