Stadiums of World Cup 1978

Argentina hosted and won the 1978 World Cup finals, becoming the fifth country to both host and win the competition.

There was some controversy surrounding the event. Some accused Peru conspiring to help Argentina progress to the final, in return for the Argentine government freeing frozen Peruvian assets. Also, the recent military coup caused some countries to consider pulling out in protest. Regardless, the competition was a success.
