Estadio Martinez Valero

Home to local team, Elche CF, Estadio Martinez Valero is located in Elche in the province of Alicante. Constructed in 1976, it was named in memory of the late president of the club, Manuel Martinez Valero. It replaced a previous stadium, the Campo de Altabix, which was built in 1923. In 1982 the venue was host to the record-breaking result of the greatest winning margin in a World Cup tie, when Hungary beat El Salvador 10 : 1.

Estadio Martinez Valero hosted three matches in the FIFA World Cup 1982 finals. All three fixtures were Group 3 first round ties, involving Hungary, El Salvador and Belgium.
