Estadio Universitario

Also known as El Volcan (Spanish for "The Volcano"), Estadio Universitario is a football venue located in San Nicolas de los Garza in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. Building plans had hoped for a capcity of 90,000. However this was reduced due to a lack of funds. The result was a capacity of 52,000 for World Cup 1986, being reduced again to the current figure of 41,650.

El Volcan is a multi-purpose venue. As well as soccer/football, it has played host to American Football matches, being used by teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys. Also, as a concerts venue, it has hosted artists such as Rod Stewart, Guns N' Roses and The Rolling Stones.

Estadio Universitario hosted four matches in the World Cup 1986 finals. Two were two Group F ties, the others being a Round of 16 clash between Morocco and West Germany and the West Germany v Mexico quarter final.
