Stadiums of World Cup 2014

Chosen from a list of 17 interested countries, Brazil was selected to host World Cup 2014. It was the second time the Brazilians had hosted the tournament.

There was signifiant controversy in Brazil about the preparation for the upcoming World Cup finals. Many including Romario, the Brazilian international footballer-turned-politician, spoke out about concerns relating to cost over-runs, poor workmanship, etc. That said, having held the final once before, there was every expectation that Brazil 2014 would be a World Cup to remember for all the right reasons.

The final was hosted by the Estádio do Maracanã. Germany were victorious, defeating Argentina 1 - 0 and becoming the first European team to win the World Cup in the Americas.
