Arena da Amazônia
The Arena da Amazônia was built in Manaus, in the middle of the Amazon rain forest. It replaced the Vivaldão stadium (Estádio Vivaldo Lima).
England played their first group match here. Manager Roy Hodgson had expressed concern about the heat players would have to endure in Manaus. However, his worries were widely dismissed because opponents (Italy) were equally hindered by the temperature.
Location: Manaus, Amazonas
Construction: In Febuary 2014 FIFA expressed concerns about this stadium. Although work was said to be 95% complete, few were sure it would be ready in time. Building had also been 'rated zero for safety'. In spite of this, the stadium opened on March 9 with an inaugural match between Nacional and Clube do Remo.
