The Cosmos Arena was the last of the World Cup 2018 stadium to be built. Construction was initially planned to take place in a scenic spot next to where the rivers Volga and Samara meet. However, previous deaths from flooding in Krimsk resulted in a change of plans. Despite environmental concerns, it was built to the north-east of the city of Samara.
Construction: Plans for the Cosmos Arena were drawn up shortly after Russia was selected to host World Cup 2018. Building started in 2014, and was expected to finish in 2017. The arena opened late, in early 2018.
