Stadiums of World Cup 2022
Qatar will host the 22nd FIFA World Cup, in 2022. Twelve stadiums will be used to host the tournament - four existing stadiums including the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha and eight new venues to be built throughout the country.
The selection of Qatar to host a World Cup has proven to be controversial. Despite being chosen by the normal voting process there have been moves to discredit the idea of Qatar hosting the World Cup. Many European countries have suggested that the temperatures will be intolerable for players and they would prefer moving the tournament to winter, or to another country. And, more recently, there have been suggestions that Qatar bribed voting officials to secure the contest. So far, no change is likely.
